The Royal Mews Buckingham Palace London

We also visited the Royal Mews. The Mews is the home to the Royal collection of historic coaches and carriages.
This is one of the finest working stables in existence and a living part of Britain`s heritage, the Mews is responsible for all road travel arrangements for the Queen and the members of the Royal Family. The Mews staff and their families live on the site.

The horses stabled at the Mews are Windsor greys and Cleveland bays, breeds chosen for their steady temperament and stamina.

The glass coach is used by royal brides, the luxurious Australian state coach has central heating and electric windows. This coach is often used by The Queen to travel to the state opening of Parliament.

The most dazzling of all coaches on display is the Gold State Coach, pictured below. This was used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1821 and in 2002 played the central role in Her Majesty The Queen`s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The car above is The Rolls-Royce Phantom.

We had a lovely time exploring the Mews looking at the wonderful coaches and the horses. Some of the horses were out as seen in the blog below taking the ambassadors to meet the queen.

Buckingham Palace London

Next we headed up The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. St James park on our left.
Below Admiralty Arch is pictured along with the Queen Victoria memorial, which stands just out side the Palace.
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of Her Majesty The Queen.
We were lucky enough to witness the parade of carriages as ambassadors from another country were taken into the palace by carriage to meet the Queen.

Whilst at the carriage parade we got chatting to the mounted policeman pictured above. Freddie Windsor is a pure bred shire horse. It is very unusual for a shire to be a police horse as they don't usually use pure bred horses let alone a shire. We learnt a lot about Freddie Windsor, he is 22 yrs old coming up to retirement soon. He even has his own web site. The policeman`s girlfriend as also written books about Freddie`s adventures. Link below. Freddie Windsor is a beautiful horse with such a kind nature.

Trafalgar Square & Downing Street London

Above are the photographs of Downing Street and Trafalgar Square. I remember bringing Aaron here along with Daniel as toddler`s.

At the time Trafalgar Square had thousands of pigeons, sadly all the pigeons had gone.

When Aaron was a small boy we made up a rhyme at the time, based on pussy cat, pussy cat, were have you been our rhyme went something like this :-

Aribo Aribo were have you been,

He`s been to London,

To visit the queen,

Aribo Aribo what did you there,

He chased all the pigeons,

Around Trafalgar Square.

After here we headed off to Buckingham Palace blogs above.

Westminster & Big Ben London

Heading off from Gobowen Station we headed down the tracks towards Marylebone Station London. Once there we caught the tube to Tower Hill having to change onto the circular line at Baker Street. We were luckily enough to be helped by a kind Irish Man who was heading home to Ireland catching the train to the airport form Liverpool Street Station. The Irish man helped us to find the right tubes and told us how many stops it was till we got off the tube.
We reached our destination without a problem, even found our hotel easy. After dropping our bags and freshening up we headed out for a look around.
We wandered over to Tower bridge and the Tower which was near by. Next we headed for something to eat. The local pub The Miniors was offering 2 for one meals which were quite cheap we headed in for some tea. Afterwards it was starting to get dark so we headed back to the hotel.
Next morning we were up and out early.
We headed to the tube station and bought a all day ticket, which was quite cheap. Heading on the tube we got off at Westminster. Coming out of the tube I said to Aaron I wanted to show him Big Ben. Wandering were it was Aaron suddenly said its behind you dizzy blond or what !
We wandered around Westminster we looked at the sites. The London Eye could be clearly seen across the river. Here Aaron was able to see Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. After taking some pictures we moved on. ( blog above )
