Llechwedd Slate Caverns - Blaenau Ffestiniog

This was a fab day out Llechwedd Slate Caverns stands NR the village of Blaenau Ffestiniog. It is an extremely interesting place to visit. S lets grab a hard hat and off we go.
The first tour offers a ride on a mine train going deep into the Victorian mine. Here you learn the history of the Victorian Slate Miner ! The tour is very interesting. After to tour we entered the still working slate workshop.

Moving on we headed for the Victorian village. This includes a bank, sweet shop and traditional tavern. Houses are also on display. The boys had a great time in the shop looking and buying the old sweets.

Our next tour was an hair raising experience as it took us deep underground into a mine shaft. We entered a lift which took us deeper and deeper underground.
Here we followed the tour around listening to the old stories about the mine and the miners than worked there.
One part of the tour the mine opened up with views of a huge underground lake.
This tour was fantastic we all really enjoyed it. The scary element added to the atmosphere of the tour. It took us some time to complete going deeper still under ground climbing down a huge stairway to the next level.
This tour was not for the faint hearted.

After heading back up to the surface in the miner`s lift. We headed up to the viewing platform high above the site. Here the views were breath taking.
This has to be one of the most breath taking underground experiences`s we have had hope you enjoy the photo`s.
