Over the last few weeks we have been doing our beautiful home up. Thanks to my wonderful step-sons this house is being transformed. Simon`s boys are fab they are fantastic at building and transformation work. Above are some photographs of the new kitchen complete with the range master aga. We are all thrilled with the transformation.
The whole house feels so much different its turning into a proper home so relaxing and chilled out. I love it this is just the first phase of the transformation and the biggest
Id like to thank my mum who helped to buy this house many years ago. At last after 15 years this house is now turning in to my dream home and I also have my dream family.

It was really something to look at I have never seen a tree or plant quiet like it. below are also some other photographs from around the ancient town.

Loro Parque Orcu Killer Whales & The Dolphins + More

This is a wonderful place to visit Loro Parque Puerto de la Cruz Tenerife. Firstly we headed to see the killer whales all the way from sea world in the USA. These are absolutely fascinating to watch the care and understanding of their keeps shows in their actions they are dedicated to the people who look after them and look incredibly happy performing their tricks for the watching crowds. You can actually see the joy and excitement in them as they soak the crowds on the lower tiers. We have some fantastic photographs above.

The enclosures the animals live in are really good you can actually walk into the Antarctic dome especially built for the penguins with real snow. The enclosure also has a huge iceberg it is very impressive.

Walking through the underwater world display is again amazing. There are many fascinating creatures within the waters from oceans and rivers from all over the world. The Shark Tunnel brings you up close to these wonderful creatures that are predators in the oceans.

The sealion show was also brilliant here the sealions loved to showed off for the crowd having a really good time They were amazingly intelligent we had plenty of laughs watching them.

Another of the shows we went to was the parrots They have their own show in a Arabic style building they flew freely around performing their skills for everyone. There is a huge breeding programme going on at Loro Parque to help with the declining numbers in the wild.

Well as for the dolphins what can I say these elegant creatures are so charming and beautiful to watch. they loved being stroked and wooed the crowd with their beauty just amazing. With tears in my eyes I watched their performance it was fantastic. Their beauty is outstanding and I cant wait to get even closer to them at seaworld in Florida. My dream for Daniel was for him to swim with them sadly he died just 6 weeks before we were due to go and full fill our dream, Aaron will have the chance in the near future though which I am sure will leave me gutted that Daniel wont be with us in person but I no he will be with us in spirit. Daniel would have loved this.

Next stop was a visit to the gorillas. They have an amazing enclosure which represents the natural rain forest environment you can almost touch the grass they sit on.

Planet life is new to the parque the magic of the cinema brings to life the work the parque does for the environment around the world. With huge conservation programs and breeding programs going on behind the scenes hopefully with the work the zoo,s do around the world many animals birds sea life will be saved from extinction.

I used to believe animals had a right to freedom but with that much cruelty in the world these days at least these animals are safe well feed and kept mentally stimulated in a clean save environment away from harm.

Teide Volcano & The Island Tour : Walking On The Moon

Well yet another wonderful adventure which made us all smile. Heading off early one morning we climbed up the mountain towards the top of Mount Teide. Mount Teide is an active volcano which stands with pride within the National Park of Las Canadas del Teide.

With ears popping as we climbed higher and higher above sea level we stopped off briefly at Vilaflor. At Vilaflor we watched the display about the native people who first lived on Tenerife.

Carrying on our journey we could clearly see the other Islands around Tenerife not so far away in the ocean mist.

Reaching the national Park the landscape changes into a wonderful replica of the moon. The only way to describe at his area is it is like walking on the moon not that I have ever been their ( but you never no One day ? )

It was stunning we stopped off to view the Volcano and to climb up the stones known as god`s finger.

Afterwards we carried on within the park. Our guide then showed us the larva trails from the Volcano. You could clearly see the trails left by the larva flow of jagged rocks, at this point we were still high up in the mountains. Our next stop was a little cafe still in the mountains were we stopped off for a coffee break. Again the views were stunning.

next we heading down the mountains to follow the trails of the larva through the villages out towards the ocean. Firstly we stopped at the flower rock, here Aaron and I reverted into child mode as we played the trolls under the bridge.

Heading down out of the mountains we stopped in a little village called Garachico which is on the North Coast of the island. This medieval village was destroyed by the volcano eruption in 1706. The evidence of the eruption to this day is still spectacular we followed the trail of larva guided by our tour guide. from the foot of the mountains then out to the ocean. The huge black rock larva was a spectacular sight. It was a excellent history lesson for Aaron, who is at present learning Spanish.

Our next stop was again a wonderful experience heading up a very winding road we headed back into the mountains. The road was steep and extremly windy with deep ravines which overlooked the countryside and looked out to the ocean. I must admit I was having kittens as the mini bus backed up towards the edges to get around the very tight bends in the road which also had a really steep hill ahead. But it was worth it t witness the beautiful views. Reaching half way up the ravines we stopped off at the lovely little village deep in the mountains called Masca it was so pretty here, we took some lovely photographs before departing to further our journey.

Again we headed up and up along the scary road. At this time it was getting dusk as the sunset faded over Tenerife but before heading back down the mountains we stopped off at yet another place which is known for its outstanding beauty here we took some photographs of the setting sun along with the views of the volcano in the distance it was wonderful. One of the best adventures we have ever been on. Heading back down the mountains we again saw the latest eruption flow of larva left by the volcano this eruption was in the early 1900. It was amazing. By now we were all absolutely shattered it had been a very long day. After heading into the hotel to freshen up we headed over to the Irish Pub for tea all so very hungry after our wonderful day out.

Heading to the new and exclusive San Miguel Marina which was situated within 1/2 mile from our hotel we found the Yellow Submarine. Straight out of the popular song from the Beatles.

Boarding the vessel we were about to be taken on a fantastic underwater adventure 30 metes (100ft ) under the sea.

Inside the sub there were huge porthole windows for viewing, the hatches were closed and we sailed off a safety boat was ahead of us. The boat began to dive we watched on the screens as the water of the ocean washed over the boat as we sank into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

The coast line in this area is rugged and unspoiled. Under the Ocean we were surrounded by clear waters,which hold an abundance of Marine Life.

We watched through the windows studying a range of fish snails and craps. Later in the trip a diver off the safety boat came into the water. There was a frenzy of fish around the sub as he swan around feeding the fish. Upon the rock many crabs clung. It was a fascinating underwater adventure.Although feeling a little claustrophobic to start the fear soon passed as there was so much to see on our journey.

This was a truly wonderful experience which we all enjoyed. We took some fabulous photographs as you can see below. After the trip we sat at the trip of the harbour in a perfectly situated cafe looking out across the ocean having a well deserved coffee. Afterwards we strolled along the shore lines beach combing finding some wonderful creatures along the way.

Whale Watching Boat Trip & The Wild Dolphins

This was a truly wonderful experience for all of us. We headed out on a catamaran boat for a wonderful few hours on the hunt for whales and dolphins. It wasn't long before we spotted a group of pilot whales off the coast of Tenerife. Bring us close to tears the boat sailed alongside these wonderful creatures. We watched as they came in and out of the water with the water spurting out of their blow holes. We stayed alongside them for quite a long time.

After Whale watching we headed off in search of the dolphins again it wasn't long before we spotted quite a few near a off shore fishing farm. We watched as they jumped leaping into the sky out of the water. They were extremely quick, we found it very hard to get a clear photo of them but it was a pleasure to watch them.

We were also treated to lunch on the catamaran in the hot sunshine in the ocean how fantastic. After lunch the boat was anchored off shore were we were allowed to swim in the ocean. Aaron was in his element he swam near to the boat with the dolphins watching from a short distance away. It was an amazing experience for him. Simon and I sat on deck watching him, Simon sadly is not well enough to swim in the ocean and as for me if I cant touch the floor it does not happen. Aaron though is a wonderful swimmer I am so pleased for him.

This trip was wonderful. Aaron may have had bad times as a child but I also no he has had many wonderful experiences too.

NEW YEAR in TENERIFE

As part of our Christmas present we flew off New Years Eve to Tenerife.

New Years Eve is a very difficult time for us as a family, due to our beloved Daniel losing his fight for life, as we flew in the sky`s on that afternoon I new he was with us, as he always is. It may sound completely mad but I no both the boys are around us I can actually smell them.

I am comfortable when I think of Daniel as I no I did everything in my power to help him achieve all he could in his short life. He visited many places home and abroad. I sleep easy knowing I never let him down and was there for him always.

As the plane takes off I always smile now instead of flooding the planes in tears, I remember those words the fly flys and how Daniel would shake with joy and excitment when the plane was taking off the the sound of the engines blasted into a roar he loved it.

I wish though he had lived many more years so he could experience much more in life I had so many plans so many things I wanted for him we now do them in his memory. But like I say he is always around us and always with us .

We landed in Tenerife well before midnight. The hotel we stayed at was wonderful as you can see from the photo`s below. We had spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean. We found a glorious Irish Pub which we spend a few hours in before heading back I do not do midnight as it feels very wrong to celebrate at this time I just treat it as another day. New Year in my eyes does not exist any more.

The next few days were to be very memorable as you will see from my forth coming blogs. The weather was very hot and sunny. It was also very weird as my good friend Ann Marie who have known for many years was on the other side of the Island. Life is treating us well at the moment and we intend over the next year to make some fantastic memories of our time together as a family.

Recently we took a trip to the car boot and market at Harry Tuffins Churchstoke. We had a wander around buying a few odds and ends. I was amazed how much the place had changed.

Simon was purchasing some game`s for Aaron from the car boot.

Whilst he was doing this Aaron and I headed to look at the animal's. They were lovely so very friendly. We wandered amongst the pens. The pigs were lovely especially the little one who had escaped it pen and was munching away on the grass verge.

Simon came to join us so we took a second look. After our wander around we headed into the cafe. Here we had a cuppa. The next stop was a trip around the store. It was a lovely morning out, we will have to visit again soon.

Boxing Day saw Daniel`s family aid Dave the Rave doing a Charity run on the animal his beloved trike. His dare was to wear a mankini. As you can see he did it riding from Welshpool to Newtown even stopping at Mc Donald`s drive through on route.

Christmas has been a time of relaxing for us. We have enjoyed our time together. We all got presents we wanted, Aaron has had a wonderful few days playing with all the presents he go and my wasn`t he spoiled as always.

We all helped with Christmas dinner which was really nice. The house is being altered at the moment, so its in a bit of turmoil. But it will be worth it when its done. The house will eventually in a few weeks have it own self contained annex. This is just one phase we have planned the next phase will start next year, other alterations have already happened. I am so looking forward to next year y the end of it the house should be looking like a show house. We are very lucky as two of Simon`s son`s are builders`s, they are happy to help sort this house out, the past bad memories will be thankfully gone all except for Daniel his presence will never be forgotten.

We have all had a lovely Christmas.

At this time I would like to wish all my family and wonderful friends a very Happy New Year. Simon, Aaron and I look forward to seeing you all when we get back next year. Happy Blogging for the year 2012 . XXXX

It`s Christmas

There`s not a day that goes by when I don't think of you. There will never be a Christmas again in my life time that will ever be the same again. You loss is still so painful for us all.

As we can`t give you presents Aaron and I have decided to do something special for you.

We have built you a website which will carry many links to help people like you. We have told the story of your big brother ( who you are now playing with in Heaven ) We have also included your special friends Matthew and Ayesha who are also up there with you. You are all properly having a great time partying with the Angles, but then again you all are our Angles.

Romantic Christmas @ Powis Castle

Whilst Aaron was out with the army cadets recently serving Christmas lunches, Simon and I visited Powis Castle. It was so romantic especially being this time of year.

We were so lucky to witness the castles deer they were out in the paddocks adjoining the castle walls.

We sat for a while watching the deer grazing what was left of the winter grass.

Afterwards we went on a special Christmas tour of the Castle with a guide. The Castle was decorated as if it was a Victorian Christmas time. Absolutely wonderful.

We were told many story's from Victorian times. We were even taken to the maze of cellars beneath the castle were all the wines and beers were brewed on site. Simon and I really enjoyed it.

After the tour we headed off to the Castle tea room were we sat down to a lovely Christmas lunch.

We had such a romantic time. Later we went to pick up Aaron who had also had a wonderful time with his army pals and a free Christmas lunch. He looks so smart in his army uniform. He is so proud to be a young soldier. He spends hours polishing his boots and ironing his uniform to perfection.

Recently he also got his Shark level 2 in life saving. His interim report from school was fantastic 13 A,s and 1 B. Although he has had a rough time in his personal life of late he still did so very well. He has his own mind and will not be brought down by being bullied. Aaron can now speak in Welsh, French and Spanish. I am so very proud of him, I think his achievements deserve an extra special Christmas present this year. Don't You !

Joe Elliot was my idol as a teenager. I adored him. Joe Elliot is the lead singer of Def Leppard. To see my idol on stage after all these years was fab.

I loved this concert and spent most of it out of my seat dancing in the stairways to the songs I love Pour Some Sugar On Me, Rock Of Ages, Hysteria, Animal and many many more. What a fab night we had. LOVED IT !

Simon`s 50th Birthday : COLDPLAY

Its official Simon has reached the big 50 although he defiantly dosen`t look it ! The day before all the family went out for a meal at Montford Bridge. We all had a lovely time after the meal all the boys played pool whilst the grannies sat around a huge hearth decorated with Christmas garland. A huge log fire it was so very cosy. Of course the grannies all gossiped my mum, Simon`s mum and Simon`s Ex mother in law who is a very lovely lady.
I new all lad`s had a surprise for Simon Nathan and I had cooked it up over the last few months. During the afternoon Simon was presented with tickets for one of his favourite band`s COLDPLAY. Wow his face was a picture a big smile across his face. They has also collected £200 for him to spend. Aaron and the boys also played football outside. It was a enjoyable afternoon had by all.

COLDPLAY

Well what can I say this show was absolutely fantastic. We headed to Manchester late in the afternoon. After parking up we headed for some supper. On the way into the concert we were all given wristbands ? Later in the show as the lights dimmed we found out why ? The whole arena lite up with little different coloured lights all around it was a fantastic sight. Simon and I rocked and boogied in the isles. It was quite incredible and we would recommend their concerts to everyone. The support act was Marina & the Diamonds. The lead singer was quite a character reminding me of Bjork. Below are some of the photo`s we took at the concert.

Simon - After a shock week we celebrated Simon`s birthday. Earlier in the week we found out the sad news that Simon`s cancer has been found in his liver. It is early days yet but we are hopeful for the future there are a range of treatments available. Simon at present is bright and well although he has the occasional days were he feels no so good and he is still very restricted with day to day activities. We are all as a family going to make the most of our future together. Since meeting Simon we have shared so many memories to date with many more to come Cancer will not stop us. He is such a lovely man and certainly does not deserve what is happening to him. Thank you to everyone who sent Simon cards and birthday wishes. He is loved not just by me but all my family and friends as well as his own.

In Memory Of Daniel

Recently both Aaron and I have set up a new facebook group. The group is in memory of Daniel to mark the 4Th anniversary of his sad death this Christmas / New Year.

We decided to set this group up quite some time ago and bring his fund back to life to help to enable us to raise money in Daniel`s memory. His fund has laid dormant since his death.

Aaron has raised money this year for Clywd Special Riding Centre in Daniels memory there is a photo on the new facebook group page. He raised the money along with his class mates. We also sponsor two RDA ponies Teddy & Homer. Daniel rode both of these lovely ponies they gave him hours of fun.

The fund I set up for Daniel was unique. With it being for a single child it wasn't classed as a charity it was a trust. From when Daniel was around 1 - 2 yrs old I realised for us to enable Daniel to live life to the full we needed extra funding. I wasn't happy asking people for money although i did receive many donations over the years from people who adored Daniel. So I opened a shop to raise money, ran stalls and also opened an EBay shop. This was done through a separate business from the fund which I still own today. In fact this business helped me focus when Daniel died it kept me going, alive in fact. In time I new I had to change the name of the business to separate it entirely form the fund. It was heartbreaking but I eventually did it changing from Daniels Trust Fund to Penybont Stores

The business today is still thriving but now earns me a living. I love the job I do, selling some lovely items that come into my shops making people happy. The shops are now on eBay and facebook. I also have selective web sites advertising what I do and some of the things we sell including selective craft. Some of the craft is unique to our shops. The shop on Daniels Web Site http://www.danielstrustfund.com/ is no longer in use as it would be inappropriate to sell things under the fund name.

The aim of the new group is to connect people with any type of special needs or disability. The group in time will offer help advice and support. It is also for people to express there own experiences of having lived with disability / special needs. It is also for special people themselves.

I also intend to either create a blog or web site to run along side the group to collect information and use it as a data base filled with links and story's about special people.
The group is going to be run by myself and Aaron but I will add appropriate people as admins who can offer specialist advice.

We also intend to fund raise and give the money we raise away to selected Charity's.

Since setting up this page only a few days ago I would like to thanks all who have joined and offered their support. I have also received some lovely texts and messages form people. I no I have so many wonderful friends and family around use. We have a fantastic support network. Thank you to to the Shropshire Star who have been so helpful in the past and have offered support in my present quest.
We get on with everybody with the exception of one or two people, who still try to hurt us. As many of my friends tell us I have been far to trusting over the years offering support to people who stab you in the back and tell such terrible lies, well the door is now closed and will stay that way. Sometimes you need to close door on people who are intend on hurting you. Its such a shame as I haven't a wicked bone in my body and try to see good in everyone but unfortunately people don't think the same as I do, they take advantage of my good nature.

I am writing a book which will take me a long time to do it covers most of the traumatic experiences my family and I have been through throughout our lives. I am hoping this book will help those effected by disability, abuse, trauma and bereavement.

In Memory Of Daniel Mchugh He may be gone but never forgotten !

Alton Towers

Recently thanks to the sun newspaper we had FREE tickets to go to Alton Towers. With it being winter and Halloween and Bonfire night over, the place was not busy at all. Aaron and I had a fantastic time going on all the fast and furious rides. Including Sonic, Rita & Thirteen. It was back to my second childhood for the day. Also a quest to see who would chicken out first !
We went on loads of rides and visited the new aquarium, here Aaron had his hands cleaned by the shrimps they were very interested in his paws ?? wonder why ??
It wasn't such a chilly day but more a little drizzly but who care`s we were soaked form the water rides anyway.

The ride above " The Runaway Train " was one of Daniel`s favourites. He would refuse to get off this ride once on it. Memory`s flooded back to the last time we visited here with Daniel. The lady running the ride kept the front two carriages free for myself and the boys. Daniel went around the track many time that day every time we went passed the lady in the over head box running the ride she would shout choo chooo Daniel screamed with delight he was a real party animal.

Other visits to Alton Towers have tainted memories I stayed up there one year and met the boys dad who was driving one of the buses from our area along with another bus driven by is work colleague and a friend of his at the time Mike Hanwright.
After obtaining the passes we all walked around together. Whilst we took the boys on the rides Mike looked after the wheelchair and all the extra things I had to carry for young Dan.
During this visited we met the tweenies well Daniel was ecstatic he went hysterical he loved the tweenies. As all of us including Mike sat watching the show Daniel called out every one of the tweenies names. He then continued to shout the weenies. Remember this was a child who only communicated via makaton sign most of the time. Tears flooded from my eyes as I watched and listened to the sounds of delight comes from my wonderful little boy. I still have the photo of Daniel with the tweenies from that day it is now framed and takes pride of place on my bedroom bookshelf.

We had a great laugh walking through the haunted forest. We played the part for Simon as he took lots of photo`s of us messing about with his high tech camera. There seemed to be unearthly creatures around every corner ? Simon enjoyed himself watching me hollla on the rides that day, unfortunately he isn't allowed on the rides due to his condition. By the end of the day both Aaron and I were soaked and absolutely knacked we managed to ride on most of the rides. What a great day !

Remembrance Sunday again brought a tear to my eye. Today I watched my wonderful son parade with the army in memory of all the soldiers who have lost there lives in the wars all around the world.

As soon as Aaron turned 13yrs old he was adamant he wanted to join the cadets. Since joining he just loves it. The opportunities available to him are fantastic. Cadets are able to help him learn survival skills and he will also be able to do his duke of Edinburgh awards within this setting. He is a very active young man and does extremely well with all his in school and out of school activities. He is now a red belt in karate and will be entering completions soon. He is also excellent at life saving and is moving up the ladder with his swimming skills very fast ( I call him the fish, he should have been one ! )

Today made me very proud of my wonderful young man, he is a star in his own right. He has had a tough time during his years but he has his own mind and lots of determination which will take him far. Well Done from us all Mum Nana and Simon we were all very proud of you on remembrance Sunday.

Bonfire & Fireworks Llangedwyn

Bonfire night to us will always have a tinge of sadness surrounding it. Daniel always loved this night and would go ballistic at the bang bangs as we called them.

We spent the evening at Llangedwyn community bonfire. It is a lovely occasion we the close villages are brought together everyone brings some food and drink so the evening has a real party feeling.

The bonfire is lite and fireworks light up the night sky. As I watched the beautiful display of colours up above, my thoughts differed back to Daniel. many a bonfire night we have stood in the freezing cold with Daniel clapping and laughing with delight at the loud bangs and colourful displays of the firework !

If god gave us a wish,

It would be for You,

To spend one last day with us,

To say a proper goodbye to you.

We miss y0u more than words can say

Africa Tangier Morocco - The Culture Experience

This was a very interesting experience. We travelled across the Atlantic Ocean from Tarifa the most southern tip of Europe. Our destination via hoover craft was Tangier Morocco in the country of Africa. It was an adventure we will not forget in a hurry and a real culture experience for Aaron.
Reaching the port of Tangier the poverty within this country hit home very quickly. Armed guards maned the ports as men in their 20,s tried to escape over the border to get into Europe.
It was quite sad really.
During our time in Morocco we visited quite a few places.
Firstly we visited the caves of Hercules on the shores of the Atlantic. The cave was an amazing place with a lovely alcove looking out to the pounding waves of the ocean as it crashed against the rocks outside. Within the cave were little stalls were locals could sell their Worth's. The history of the cave goes back thousands of years but one recent tale was of Def Leppard the rock band using the cave for a concert and for a world record of playing in so many different countries in so many days.
Our next visit was a typical Moroccan experience. It was here Aaron got to ride on a camel totally fantastic. We also sat down to a typical Moroccan lunch of firstly vegetable soup then couscous with vegetables and lemon chicken. For afters we had Moroccan cookies. Washed down with red wine and water. It was lovely we even got to sit down around a typical Moroccan table.
We also were lucky enough to watch a typical traditional dress horsemanship display. The Arabian Fantasia show also showed us typical local entertainment including Belly dancing and local music. It was a truly wonderful experience of a very different culture.
Another trip took us to the town. We had a tour through the Medina ( old part of the town ) and also the souk ( market ). The tour guide pointed out many places of history. It was fascinating. It was here though the poverty within the country became very clear. Beggars sat on steps within the streets asking for money. Also we were surrounded by street hawkers offering their wears for sale, practically begging us to buy something. It was quite upsetting and scary. I kept a close eye on my bag as did Simon.
All in all though it was a brilliant experience visiting Morocco it just shows how lucky we are in the UK to be able to access the things we need and life's luxuries. It was a wonderful experience for us all especially Aaron. Look out for our up and coming next adventures.

Gibraltar - A Little Piece Of Home > The Monkeys

We recently had a wonderful time visiting Gibraltar. Investigating the History of the Rock Of Gibraltar. The Rock is under British rule it is very strange crossing the boarder from Spain into a little piece of England !
Parking up near the Harbour which houses many boats of different forms from huge cruise ships in dock for the day to small sailing boats owned by the people on the Rock. Also in the harbour sit the beautiful cruise boats many worth thousands of pounds.
Gibraltar has its own currency very much like UK pounds and pence, whilst on the rock you can also use ££££ and euro`s.
During our stay on the Rock of Gibraltar we were lucky enough to visit many of the sights Gibraltar is famous for. A trip to the tax free shops was a must. As you walk through the ancient gateway ahead lies the old British telephone boxes and post boxes. These items are now even a rare sight within the UK.
Whist on the Rock we visited St Michael's Cave. The cave is fairly spectacular as you can see from the photo`s below. It is that big concerts are held within it ! A very beautiful cave with again beautiful rock formations.
A visit to the rock would never be complete without a visit to see the famous monkey`s. The monkey`s live at the top of the rock. We went on a tour to the top to complete are visit. You can get very close to these little guys some are friendly others are not. We were told a story of a Monkey a few days earlier who tore a woman's arm open after she teased it. Still to us these monkey`s were very lovely creatures if not a little cheeky.
During are visit we also had a tour of the Rock which saw some amazing views near and beyond.

Granada - Sierra Nevada .. Alhambra

Granada translates in English to pomegranate. This Spanish city is full of charm and mystery situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. This was the last of the Arab strongholds in Spain which was conquered by the Christians in 1492.

I remember visiting this place many years ago heading over the Sierra Nevada mountain range. I can still remember the 1/2 cooked burger and the horses being made to pull carts in the searing heat over sand dunes. Whilst travelling in this area in my early twenties I also have memory's of meeting a young man from Belgium who was on his last stage of his travelling before heading back to Belgium to be called into the countries National Army Service. Funny how things back to from time to time.

The city of Granada is truly spectacular we were lucky enough to be able to wander about in the city before joining our tour guide for lunch. It was here we met a lovely lady from Scotland.

We had a lovely lunch in a restaurant off one of the busy city streets. The city had its fair share of poverty with the odd beggar sitting in doorways. I am so glad Aaron gets to experience all these different cultures and see`s for himself how life is so very different for some peoplle.

After lunch we headed up to The Alhambra Complex the most visited monument of Andalusia
This is world known as the best conserved example of Islamic architecture in Spain.

The Alhambra is famous as a Moorish palace as well as the Alcazaba fortress that guarded it and the Generalife which was a summer palace all within its foundation and gardens.

The Alhambra stands at the foot of the Sierra Nevada which is Spain`s highest mountain range. It also overlooks the city of Granada.

It is certainly one of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture. It was built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th century.

Here lived the last Arabic King - Boabdil until 1492. At the centre of the Alhambra stands the massive palace of Charles V.

Other major Christian monuments found in the city are the Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Encarnacion ( 1523 - 1703 ) including the Royal Chapel where Isabel and Ferdinand ( the world famous Catholic Monarchs are buried )

The hill facing the Alhambra is the old Moorish casbah or Medina called the Albaicin. This is a fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses with patios.

The Scaromonte hill which overlooks the city from the North is famous for its cave. It was once the home of Granada`s gypsies and today is a place to enjoy the Flamenco music.

The Alhambra and Generalife were declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1984.

With the help of our tour guide Aaron learnt allot about ancient Spain. He learned about the building, life in the old times, about the Moorish community, kings of recent centuries and the Arabic times of the Alhambra. His eyes lite up when he learned of the Sultans and their many wives.

The views from the gardens were spectacular. At the back you could see the snow capped tops of the Sierra Navada Mountain Range. This was a wonderful day out steeped with Spanish history.

Fuengirola Costa Del Sol Spain

Fuengirola was a short brisk walk along the beach and the promenade from our holiday complex. We strolled up there a few times during our stay. Fuengirola was a fairly busy place and very interesting. Behind all the large building and in between some of the smaller buildings stood in the distance the rolling mountains of Spain.
There were many shops to explore along the streets and markets, there were also many hawkers ( street traders ).
One of our visits we watched in the distance as a storm came in over the town from the mountains heading out to sea. There were many colours of rainbows and spectrum's as the rain hit the beams of the sun.
As the grumps ( Simon and Aaron ) got hungry we managed to find a good old fashioned fish and chip shop. PS There called the grumps as they enjoy spoiling my photo`s pulling faces. Told them both one day they will end up sticking in that position LOL.
We had a really nice time exploring Fuengirola which was just the start of a wonderful holiday for all of us.

Zoo Bioparc Fuengirola

One Of The finest zoo`s has been created nr Fuengirola Spain The Bioparc is involved in over 35 EEp breeding programmes for species in danger of extinction. The parc also supports conservation projects in Africa .
The Bioparc ( zoo ) was beautiful. The animals enclosures were set out a close to the animals natural environment as possible. We wandered around this lovely place which is sure a credit to Spain. Firstly finding the pink Flamingo's pictured below.

Next stop was the Nile Crocodiles, these magnificent creatures has a fabulous enclosure. We managed to get some wonderful pictures and got up close and personal to them.

There were also a wide range of other animal and birds. These included Leopards, river hogs, meerkats, porcupines, giant snails, deer, cranes, white tigers, tapir, otters parrots and many other unusual creatures.

These two little things I fell for totally. These are Pigmy Hippos. We were lucky enough to come at a time when there was a baby. I got some fantastic photographs of the proud mum with her off spring.

Moving through the parc there was a wide range of monkeys to look at. These included Gorillas, Chimpanzees, golden cheeked gibbons, orangutan's lemurs and colobos and talapoins.

Also at the parc were a wide range of fish and insects all again in beautiful enclousers. There was also a selection of reptiles and tropical birds. We had a lovely day visiting this lovely zoo and meeting all the animals. Hope you enjoy the photo`s.

Spain Costa Del Sol ( Coast Of The Sun )

We have had the most wonderful and amazing half term holiday. Aaron has had fantastic multi culture experiences all week ! We caught the early morning flight from Liverpool airport to Malaga On the Costa del Sol Spain. Costa del Sol translates in English to coast of the sun. The plane ride went smoothly with amazing views of the sunrise not long after take off.

We arrived in Malaga in good time waiting fr us was a taxi which took us to are resort complex.

During the summer a lucky star shone down on me I won this holiday what a fantastic prize. We were all thrilled when we discovered what the week would have in store for us. We were not disappointed. Life today is so good at last we can all smile again. This is the first of a number of blogs relating to our overseas holiday.

It was not long before we reached our destination. The complex was beautiful 5 * we were also given a £55 voucher which converted to 62.50 euro,s to spend around the resort.

Within the resort was a Spanish riding centre, which held displays The horses were beautiful we gave some of them a pat.

A short walk from reception was the beach accessed through a tunnel. Here we found the Mediterranean sea. Warm and lush. The views were quite spectacular as far as the eye could see. Along the coast to Torromolinos and up towards Marbella. Inland the mountains of Spain stood out with the swirling clouds some laden with rain.

Aaron was delighted with the pool outside our department. The water was fairly cold though I ventured in once but had difficulty with my bones the next day. So I new it wasn't a good idea to venture in again. A German lady said I was very brave going in. Once in though it was a decent size pool to swim around in. Aaron had a lovely time and went in most days whilst we were at the resort. We sat and watched him having lots of fun.

The apartment we stayed in was beautiful with all mod cons. The balcony overlook the sea. In the distance we could see the cruise ships sailing by. It was such a relaxing place to be.

I managed to even get some time to sit on the balcony to read my book the Gypsy book " The Painted Caravan" recommended. A really good read.

We treated ourselves to a few meals out during our stay. The meals were lovely. The entertainment was also really good we listened to songs of the 80,s 90,s and Spanish music.One of the singers was international singer Jesus Palma who play his guitar as he sang songs from Pink Floyd Police Bryan Adams it was lovely relaxing and listening to the sound of his guitar. During our time here Aaron also got the chance to practice the new language he is learning Spanish. Considering he has only been speaking this since September he is doing fantastic. He can now speak 4 language including our own English, French, Spanish & not forgetting Welsh. I am so very proud of my son. He is a star.

Black Rock Sands Holiday

A beautiful weekend with glorious sunshine saw us heading off to Greenacres Black Rock Sands Porthmadog.
It was a weekend for relaxing and chilling out. We all had a wondeful time looking around the town, exploring the complex, watching the entertainment, playing in the arcade, going swimming and walking on the beach.
The caravan we had was lovely all refurbished. As the season draws to a close for the coming winter we will look forward to visiting Haven again next year we love it !

Army Cadets - Life Saving

Aaron has now joined the Army Cadets. He loves it and the activities that come with it. It brought me to tears seeing my boy so grown up in an army uniform.
Another achievement recently Aaron has made is passing the next stage in his life saving course. He is doing extremely well with life saving.
We are all very proud of Aaron for the achievements and progress he has made in all areas of his life.
WELL DONE !

The Moonlight Walk ... To Raise Money For Cancer

Recently Aaron & I went on a Moonlit walk to raise money for cancer. We set off from Llanfyllin High School as darkness fell 8pm and walked by the light of the moon and torch light.
The walk covered 6 miles along the lanes and through farm land to the village of Lanfechain.
There were swards and check points along the way.
Part of the walk saw Aaron and I alone walking the lanes which was quite an experience in the pitch black.
It was a lovely night and listening to the sounds of darkness, and watching for the nocturnal animals that come alive at night was well worth the experience. Hooting of the owls could be heard all around us.
Must admit the hills took there toll on my tired old knee, I didn't give up but was in a lot of pain towards the end as well as the next day. Determination kept me going and I was pleased to have completed the walk.
Back at High School we had a late supper coffee and tea. We also raised over £45 for the cause ourselves.

Apple Festival @@@@ Erddig

Croeso i Erddig - Welcome to Erddig.
Erddig is widely acclaimed to be one of Britain`s finest historic houses reflecting the upstairs downstairs life of a family over 250 years. In October every year the estate houses the popular Apple Festival.
This year was no exception. It was quite a spectacular event Here you can savour the autumnal colour and sweet taste of the apple harvest. There is a display of apples which are grown on the estate many hundreds of different makes some dating back hundreds of years. Seeing is believing.
Around the estate different activities, displays and demonstration were underway. Morris dancers to the North Wales Owl Rescue Centre. Pottery plants books crafts of all types basically something for everyone to enjoy.
In the gardens there were Punch and Judy shows and old fashioned attractions.
Sampling the cider was a popular tent ! We watched a cider making demonstration. Looking around the stalls we bought ourselves some special treats.
This was a lovely afternoon out we finished our day by wandering around the big old historic house. The afternoon tea. Truly wonderful ! The photo`s are lovely and show the spectacular colours of the autumn fall.

BLACKPOOL

There is nothing like a trip to the seaside and Blackpool is the place to go. There is so much to do here from a stroll along the Victorian promenade to the thrill seeker rides of the fair.
Having won tickets to pleasure beach Worth nearly £100 a while ago it gave us the perfect excuse to revisit many of my childhood memories.
We wandered around the shops and along the promenade in glorious sunshine. Stopping off for lunch we then headed to the pleasure beach were Aaron and I donned the wristbands and off we trotted all around the fair.
The wristbands were the ultimate ones which took us on all the top rides including The Big One. How brave was I ! We had a wonderful day out which took us through the famous Blackpool lights as darkness fell. Heading home we were all completely shattered.

Meet The Sticks & Flipper & Kipper

Meet Aaron`s stick insects. We have had these little critters since they were tiny babies watching them grow from eggs. They are now quite huge some as much as 4" long. Sometimes they play dead.
Once they were all lying at the bottom of the tank ? I was mortified I started to clean the tank out before Aaron got home from school as I thought he would be so upset. He loves these little creatures.
As I moved the leaves one moved I thought to myself at least there is one still alive. I set the other tank up with ivy privet and a drop of water for this lone critter.
I picked him up and put him in his new home then continued the grim task of placing the others on some tissue ready for burial later in the day when Aaron came home from school.
All of a sudden legs began to move everywhere ! they were running around climbing the wall of the tank and up my arms. The little buggers had been playing dead. Thankfully all 12 of the things were all still alive. just goes to show never believe anything you see. They looked dead all dried up but they were very much alive. They must have had a good laugh at the dizzy blond cleaning there tank out ! As Aaron says.
They are now about 4 -5 mths old. They are easy to keep and fascinating to watch ! When there not playing dead. Hope you enjoy the photo`s. Also below are a couple of links for info on these critters.
