Poulnabrone Dolmen

Portal Tomb

Wow what a place, I have never seen anything like the way the earth had formed in this area. It reminded me of a volcanic eruption and the effect was like hardened larva a volcanic eruption leaves behind.
Poulnabrone Dolmen is in Carron, Co Clare.  Portal Tomb pictured above dates back to 3200 BC.
The Burren`s built history has left ruins of round towers, ancient churches, high crosses, tombs and holy wells.
The tomb comprises of a tabular  capstone supported by two slender portal stones and boarded by nearby cairn. This is the final resting place of some of the first farmers of the Burren, it is a mystical place  with an atmosphere which makes you really think back to the years 3200 BC and what life would  have been like back then.
